Pachyderms and Asses

By Zack T. Miller

April 6, 2009

Where do I begin? The economy is in a shambles and getting worse by the day. The federal government insists on dumping our money into companies that are doomed to fail. We have a young, ideological puppet president whose strings are being yanked by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. He clings to the vague, intangible words “hope” and “change”, hoping to somehow comfort us into blind faith in his policies. Our legislative branch has become a circus, with C-SPAN looking more like an episode of As the World Turns. Trillions of dollars are being thrown at earmarks and pet projects that are supposed to stimulate the economy when anyone with any sense knows they won’t. A World Socialist Order is in the works, and the media is too busy swooning over Barack Obama to pay any attention to any of this.

Of course the Grand Old Party isn’t helping matters. Why would they want to? The Democrats control the House, Senate, and White House. If the Republicans make Obama look good, they lose elections. So they’re just sitting on their thumbs, waiting for the sky to fall. They’re biding their time until the Obama policies cripple the nation and the balance of power swings back to them. It’s the same game the Democrats played while George W. Bush was in office. Now they can put all the blame on old W. What good does that do for the United States?

Liberals and conservatives play tug-of-war for the soul of America, and it has shredded this nation apart. The “us” and “them” mentality has permeated so deeply into the fabric of America that common sense and the welfare of our nation have been pushed to the side in favor of petty bickering and personal attacks. This childish struggle between the two parties absolutely disgusts me. Our beloved nation has fallen into the hands of corrupt bureaucrats who are blinded by personal gain and lobbyist agendas.

If one good thing arises from the hard times we currently face, I hope common sense can return to Washington. As the two tumors named Democrat and Republican eat away at each other, the voice of reason can once again come to the forefront and explain that not everything is black and white. Not everything is blue or red. People cannot be simply labeled “conservative” or “liberal”. Republicans are operating on archaic ideologies and refuse to adapt to the modern world. Democrats are childishly idealistic communists in disguise. We are judged by where we stand on this line of left/right. Are we a mid-leftist country? Are we centrists? No! We are the United States of America! We each have our own views, our own values, and our own lives to live. America got along just fine before elephants and jackasses told us how to live, and we will thrive again once we remember that it is our people, not our government that makes this nation great.
